Integrated Bottle Cartoning and Secondary Packaging
Bottle packaging requires coordinated product feeding, carton loading, inspection, and downstream handling. Each transfer must match the product orientation, packaging format, and operating conditions of the next machine.
SieracTech engineers bottle cartoning and shrink packaging solutions around these requirements. The proposed configuration combines automatic packaging equipment with manual tray-loading and final case-packing stations, supported by conveyors, electrical distribution, and integrated controls.
Bottle dimensions, carton construction, required output, inspection functions, and available factory space determine the final equipment configuration.
Packaging Process
Upstream bottle preparation:
Bottle Unscrambling → Ionized Air Rinsing → Filling → Capping → Bottle Labeling and Inspection
Cartoning and secondary packaging:
Bottle Transfer → Horizontal Cartoning → Tamper-Evident Labeling → Carton Coding and Inspection → Manual Grouping or Tray Loading → Shrink Wrapping → Manual Case Packing
Filling, capping, and bottle-labeling equipment are interface equipment in the reference layout. Their supply scope is confirmed separately.

Main Equipment and Functions
Bottle Unscrambling
The bottle unscrambler receives randomly oriented bottles and delivers them upright to the conveyor. A bottle elevator, unscrambling turntable, guides, and rejection components prepare bottles for the downstream rinsing process.
The reference machine accommodates bottle diameters or widths of 40–95 mm and heights of 80–250 mm. Actual suitability depends on bottle shape, rigidity, and handling characteristics.
Ionized Air Bottle Rinsing
The six-head air rinser cleans empty bottle interiors before filling. Bottle inversion, clean compressed air, static neutralization, and vacuum suction work together to remove loose particles.
The reference configuration lists a capacity of 60–100 bottles/min, bottle diameters of 40–110 mm, and a minimum bottle-mouth diameter of 18 mm. Cleaning performance and final operating conditions require application testing.
Servo-Driven Horizontal Cartoning
The horizontal cartoner uses intermittent motion, servo drives, and electronic cams to coordinate carton opening and bottle loading.
Product and carton detection control the loading sequence:
- No product, no carton: Carton pickup is inhibited when product is unavailable.
- No carton, no pushing: The loading pusher remains stationary when the receiving carton is missing.
- Operator information: The HMI provides fault displays, alarms, and finished-product counting.
Bottle orientation, loading tools, carton guides, and closure tooling are evaluated against actual product samples and carton blanks.
Vision Inspection
The proposed configuration includes two vision inspection systems. Cameras, lighting, sensors, and inspection software can be configured to check selected packaging features, including label presence, printed codes, cap appearance, and carton identification.
Inspection positions are selected according to feature visibility. Bottle checks are performed before cartoning where necessary, while carton checks are positioned after the relevant labeling or printing operation.
The final inspection scope, defect criteria, and automatic rejection arrangements are defined during the technical review.
Carton Tamper-Evident Labeling
The labeling module uses servo-driven label dispensing and carton detection to apply self-adhesive labels to the specified carton area. Label dispensing is inhibited when no carton is present.
The seal position, label material, carton surface, and number of sealing points must be confirmed. The reference machine is described as a single-sided labeling configuration.
Three-Carton Shrink Packaging
The film wrapper and shrink tunnel package prepared carton groups in shrink film. The wrapper detects the incoming pack and seals the film before the pack passes through the heated tunnel.
The documented application includes three-carton shrink packs, with plastic or cardboard trays specified for one bottle format. Manual platforms support grouping and tray loading.
Final pack dimensions, film selection, tray construction, and thermal settings are subject to evaluation.
Conveying and Manual Packing Stations
Slat-chain conveyors, curved sections, and distributed drives connect the packaging operations within the available floor space.
Manual tray-loading platforms and a final packing station provide operator access for grouping, tray loading, and case packing. The final layout considers product transfers, replenishment, maintenance access, and manual handling capacity.
Integrated Controls and Line Coordination
SieracTech’s proposed scope includes electrical distribution, a main control cabinet, cabling, pneumatic tubing, cable trays, and integrated line controls.
Engineering review defines how the equipment responds to product shortages, downstream accumulation, inspection rejection, machine faults, and production restarts. Interfaces with existing equipment are agreed before commissioning.
Documented control functions include:
- PLC and HMI operation.
- Servo motion and electronic cam control.
- Product and carton detection.
- Fault displays and alarms.
- Finished-product counting.
- Manual and automatic functions on the cartoner.
- Stored packaging settings on the shrink wrapper.
The final control platform, communication method, and external interfaces are confirmed for the project.
Safety and Maintenance Access
The cartoner configuration includes guarded access, safety-door interlocks, an independent safety relay, carton-shortage alarms, and air-pressure protection.
The proposal specifies SUS304 stainless steel manual platforms and stainless steel construction for selected machine structures. Final material selection, cleaning access, and safety requirements are reviewed against the operating environment and destination requirements.
